Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Your school email address, used to sign you in and place you in your school.
- Profile details you choose to add: name, class year, major, housing preferences, bio and photo.
- What you do in the app: saved listings and searches, which listings you open or save (counted, without your name, in the totals other students see), roommate swipes and matches, messages, forum posts, listings you post, support requests, and reports you send.
- In the iOS app, if you allow notifications: a push token for your device, used only to send you Abode notifications.
- Usage counts: which screens you open and actions you take (for example a search, opening a listing, starting a group), kept for 180 days so we can see which parts of Abode students use. These are counted in Abode’s own database. There are no third-party analytics or advertising tools in Abode, nothing is used to track you across other apps or websites, and we don’t store your IP address or a device fingerprint for this.
Emails we send
Sign-in codes, and a weekly email with new places that fit what you’re looking for. The weekly one has a one-tap unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off in Account & Privacy. We don’t sell or share your email address.
How it is used
To run the app: show you housing and roommate matches, deliver messages, and keep posts safe through reports and moderation. We don’t sell your information.
Who can see it
Roommate profiles, posts and messages are visible only to signed-in students at your school. Photos you upload are re-encoded on your device before upload, which removes location data embedded by phone cameras. Student sublease posts show a general area, never a street address.
Services we use
- Supabase hosts the database, photos and sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the website and app.
- Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications to the iOS app.
- Resend delivers sign-in codes by email.
- Listing sites. Listing photos load directly from the site that published the listing, which receives your IP address when the photo loads. Opening an original listing takes you to that site, under its own privacy policy.
Your choices
You can edit or remove your profile photo and details, hide your roommate profile, remove listings you posted, turn off notifications in your device settings, and block other students. You can delete your account yourself in Profile → Account & Privacy; that permanently deletes your profile, photos, saved items, matches, messages and posts.
